Dining Room Inspiration

As always I like to start each room with an inspiration item.  For the dining room there were actually two, but it all started with the curtains, so I have to give them most of the credit.

Here's what I'm talking about...

Love the pattern, love the colours, love the sheen.  Can't wait for this room to be complete!  We've got boxes and boxes and boxes and boxes (you get the point) of china to unpack into this room.  All the box clutter is starting to drive me batty.  Well that and my to-do list which seems to grow exponentially daily.

Random, Stress, Overwhelm...

So things have been hectic lately... rather than avoid another post (my camera and I are having some disagreements about which one of us is in charge here)... I thought I would share some of the goings-on around here.  Although sans pictures for the most part.

The powder room is painted!  I know... three cheers!  It looks good, but with the old toilet and vanity still hanging around, it's a bit less of a "wow" and more of an "oh".  Disappointing...

I have started the dining room, which will be the next project.  I am hoping to share my inspiration with you soon.  I think I mentioned before that it will be some lovely, silky, embroidered curtains.  We are also planning an ambitious molding project for this room... I am pumped about that, but the planning is intense.

We are feeling the pressure for some outdoor house love because our yard is in serious need of some. 

We tackled the front yard in the Fall to add some curb appeal, but the back is in sad shape.  Hubby is also keen on getting the BBQ hookup installed as he has been living without grilled meat for "far too long".

We're also talking skylights and hiring someone to paint the stairway that has 20 foot ceilings (neither of us is feeling daredevil enough to try it - plus I'm terrified of heights).  We have some electrical work that needs doing and of course I am constantly thinking about ripping out that kitchen and making it more functional.  This happens every night when I'm making dinner and cursing because I have to unstack all the pots/baking pans/casserole dishes to get the one I need.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this, right?

So basically my mind is travelling in multiple directions and until I can get it to focus on one thing at a time it will be chaos inside of my head and my house.

Happy Easter!

It's been a crazy couple of days... I have SO much to tell you about.  I am just itching for some showing off... but as usual I have not downloaded any lovely pictures for you lovely readers.  I AM SORRY.  I'll make it up to you I promise.

Over Easter we were visiting family and generally enjoying ourselves and the lovely warmish weather (5-10 degrees Celsius).  We had snow last week (no joke) so we'll take what we can get.  The plants are enjoying the weather as well, and it seems that Spring has really arrived.

Lately, I have been having so much fun watching my tulips come up in the front garden; it is SO exciting.  Tulips are my absolute favourite flower.  In our area (we are Zone 5 for you gardeners), we plant bulbs in the Fall and then cross our fingers all winter and wait expectantly in the Spring for the little green leaves to poke out of the ground.  Of course there are some that get eaten by squirrels (little buggers!) and other animals before they have a chance to grow, but when they start growing out of the ground it's like magic.

The front of our house used to look like this.

Yup, just grass... how boring.  In fact, it's all pretty beige.  We planted a garden along the front path and around the giant cedar tree that you can see in the bottom right of the photo.  It looks so much more homey now.  The tulips are not blooming yet, but for now the little green leaves are excitement enough.  Happy Spring!
